8-Ball Pool Practice
English 8-Ball pool practice sessions are held every Wednesday between 12-5 in LOOP Sports Bar. The venue is open exclusively for us and tables are free. LOOP is a fantastic sports bar which we use for more than just pool, i.e. drinks and watching football, and is located near the barbican. More details about directions will be given in the near future. Make sure to check our emails and Facebook page for regular tournament and freshers festivities announcements that will occur during practice hours!
Snooker Practice
There are no fixed snooker practice sessions run by the club, although regular snooker events will be held at the Fulford Conservative Club on Saturdays, whose members and committee very kindly allow us to use their excellent tables, without doubt he best in York (cost 20p for 7 minutes). We run the sessions from 1-5pm though if the place is quiet we sometimes stay much longer Again, keep your beady eyes on your University email account for snooker announcements.
9-Ball Pool Practice
Given that there are no student-friendly (cheap) American 9-Ball tables in York, as a club we only run practice sessions in the lead-up to the annual UPC 9-ball event which takes place on 7-9th December. Table costs are covered by the Pool & Snooker Club and all you would need to pay is petrol money to whoever is driving (about £2-3). If you would be interested in representing the University at 9-Ball, please send an email to Club President Dale Rout ([email protected]), and he will let you know when the next practice session is.
University League
LOOP League 8-Ball Pool
Throughout term time we host a league-style 8-Ball competition at LOOP on Thursday evenings, with prize money awarded drawn from entry fees at the end of each term for the top three finishers in each league. There are normally three leagues, with players allocated to each depending on ability and experience, so newcomers perhaps looking to imporve their ability will be matched against similar players. For the following term the top 3 players will be promoted to the division above, and the bottom three relegated to the division below. Open to members only.
University Pool and Snooker Championships
Starting in the Spring term, the club runs two knockout cup competitions open to anyone studying at the University. Prize money is awarded for people who reach the latter stages (drawn from a small entry fee), with a trophy also going to the winner. Matches can be played at any venue agreed by the two opponents.
College Pool
Another way to get involved at Cuesports at York University is by competing for the pride of your College against enemy Colleges on Thursday evenings, hosted at the bars around campus. Many of our University team players started by playing College Pool before deciding that they enjoyed the competitive element that this format involves and went on to get more involved with the pool club regularly. College Pool is also a great way to meet new people from your College. This competition is run independently from the Uni Club by individual College Captains. If you would like the contact details for your Captain, please visit the 'Us' page.

Coaching
At York we have winning tradition, both in terms of our competitiveness on the tables at a national level and in terms of being one of the top achieveing sports clubs at the University of York. This is achieved at least in part by our committment to provide affordable coaching to all members of the club. Throughout the year we will be offering places, subsidised heavily by the club, to learn how to improve cueing and potting techniques from a professional coach. This opportunity is open to all Pool & Snooker Club members, not just University players.
Coaching will start around week 4 of the Autumn term - we will email details close to the time.
