About Us
The York University Pool and Snooker Club is a society/sports club open to anyone studying at the University of York - whether you would ultimately like to represent Yorkshire's finest Cuesports club on a national level, test your skills in our frequent inter-club league and cup competitions, or would just like to meet new people with a common interest in Cuesports for a few frames at our twice-weekly practice sessions, we aim to cater for all levels of interest in York University Cuesports.
On a national level, our club has a reputation for frequently being one of the challengers for titles in 8-Ball Pool (English), 9-Ball Pool (American) and Snooker. The last academic year was very much a transition year which saw many of the previous club members graduate. Nonetheless we finished runners-up in the national BUCS 9-Ball Championships, narrowly missing out to Liverpool University, and also reached the last-16 of the national BUCS 8-Ball Pool Championships. Though again as is to be expected with university clubs a number of players have now left and so we are always looking to recruit new members who can hopefully add to the success we've had in the past. To help improve our individual game as well as our success on a national level we are starting coaching with a fully qualified snooker coach which you can read more about on the next page. We could definitely do with some snooker players if you're out there!
We will also be hoping to take a greater number of womens teams to Great Yarmouth to compete in the UPC Women's 8 ball pool championships and hope to have more women's practice sessions and perhaps some mixed gender pool practices as well. Our women's team actually won the northern Universities 9-Ball Championships last year.
Beyond the national events we compete in, we are an inclusive, friendly club that places emphasis on the important things whilst studying at University - going out, drinking and banter. We run regular 'socials' in term time, that sometimes involve a theme but always involve the three things listed previously, and of course, the odd frame of pool along the way. Anybody is welcome to join us on these, members or not. Rumour has it that there will be events in the first few weeks of Autumn term that will be specifically aimed at freshers and new members. Watch this space. Or, to be less vague, keep an eye your Uni email account and our upcoming Facebook page.
